basically it gives us the news that stem cells other than the ones they collect from a fetus (or very new unborn child) have been discovered in the the fliud that surrounds the unborn baby in the womb. the discovery of these cells make it possible to harvest cells without destroying the embryo--which was the only way in the past to do this. also, these cells can be specialized---if a patient needs bone tissue, the cells for bone tissue (or any kind of tissue like eyes, and other organs) can be grown with a little coaxing from the scientist, and they can grow most any type of tissue needed. in the past, it was difficult to isolate a bone stem cell for example, or get a cell to grow into the tissue that was needed. embryonic stem cells had to be harvested from a particular bone cell if they needed to grow more bone cels, now they can take any stem cell from the fluid and make it grow into what they need by adding a substance called an enzyme, one of the many building blocks of DNA. this technique is still far from being perfected but the scientists are hopeful that this can lead to a few things, like stem sell availability for everyone by having a stem cell 'bank' that can grow what is needed at a moment's notice, and store many cells that are compatible with just about anyone. the attractive things about this is that no harm is done to an embryo to harvest the cells, and the cells grow particulary fast. the cells also don't age the more cells that are grown. they are able to grow large amounts of these cells in a petrie dish, which i think was a bit iffy for the embryonic stem cells the article states that this is still something that needs more research and is still not perfected, but shows great promise.
i hope this clarifies the article for you!
new: i am not sure if tihs is what you mean in your question, but i'll try to explain!
what destroys the embryo the old way is which cells they need and how they have to take them from the embryo--the procedure. the newly discoverd way---the cells are only taken from the fluid surrounding the embryo. in the past it was thought that the best stem cells they needed were only available in an embryo, now they have discovered better cells and ones that won't hurt the embryo when they take them---and it can be any stem cell for whatever purpose taken from the fluid only.

Stem cells do hold promise for cures.

There are more than 1 source of stem cells.
1. Adult stem cells those have show promise up to 72 and counting.
2. Fetal stem cells taken from
a. core blood
b. after birth
c. frozen embros
1. This is what the debate is all about this one source some think it is killing babies and others don't see it that way. They think this is the only source of stem cells.

So it comes down to this when people who scream that Bush is against stem cells study he is against only frozen embros as source for stems not anything else.

It is important to remember there have been 0 cures from fetal stem cells. They have a major problem with growing tumors.

There is more hype about stem cells than serious debate by liberals.

in order to circumvent the controvery over embryonic stem cells, scientists are now harvesting stem cells from amniotic fluid, which will not require the sacrifice of the embryo's life.
