If you have a wifi enabled laptop you can buy roaming time in a lot of countries by the hour... find a hotspot, try to log on and you should find a landing page taht lets you pay for time.

If you don't have a wifi enabled laptop buy a USB wifi adapter... after checking that you can find hotspots where you are going. Some countries are better than others... but don't go looking in rural India for hotspots!

If you don't want to use / can't use wifi... your hotel may offer broadband ethernet.

Failing that, buy a local computer magazine and find a pay-per-minute dial up company, buy a local modem lead and register yourself (at an internet cafe?) and then dial up from any phone line. Or get prepared up front and buy a teleadapt kit for your destination or the world before you go.

Last and most expensive option... phone your usual ISP at home as an international call (use a calling card to cut the cost).

Oh, no, REALLY the last and most expensive option... hook up to your mobile and call your home ISP from it.

Thanks to the glory of committees put together to assure quality and consistency, you can use your laptop to surf the internet abroad. The process is exactly the same as if you were in the states, read signs to find hot spots, determine if it's free, etc.

While wi-fi is technically the same everywhere, doesn't necessarily mean the voltage is. Be sure to bring the right adapter for your laptop's power supply when abroad! The internet is useless if your laptop's dead.

If your laptop has WiFi then you'll be able to get online at a hotspot (e.g. in a Starbucks or a hotel lobby) as you would here in the UK. You'll probably be charged but my guess is that it'll be cheaper than in the UK.

If you don't have WiFi, then the hotel you're stayng at might have internet access in your room. When I was last in Canada for instance, the hotel has Wifi throughout but also had internet access available by plugging your laptop into the room's ethernet port.

I guess if the worst came to the worst you'd be able to use your mobile phone but I imagine that would be wickedly expensive.

you will get considered one of those internet USB dongles on a pay as you pass scheme, then you certainly merely positioned "credit" on it as and once you want. I easily have one on settlement that I easily have used in the united kingdom and when I went to Austria. i'm on the three community, i've got had it on settlement for a 12 months and a nil.5 now, and that i've got under no circumstances had any problems with it. when I went to Autstria, my bill exchange into precisely an identical, and in maximum places you wont get charged to any extent further than you may right here.
