I have a silk comforter made with silk batting that I'd like to wash. Is it okay to wash in the washer/dryer? Or does this take special cleaning methods?

I bought comforter/duvet in China on a trip there. Instructions were included but they were in Chinese!

As others have mentioned, you should absolutely dry clean it, or have it professionally "wet cleaned." Although you can machine or hand-wash many silk items in water, the silk floss used as batting in your comforter is not designed for machine washing.

How To Wash Silk Comforter

I'm sorry this happened. I have a suspicion this can't be cleaned at all without the dyes running. Silk itself is perfectly washable, but often the dyes aren't washable. Compounding this is the fact that the pee has certainly got inside the comforter and really needs to be rinsed out if it isn't going to eat at the silk (urine contains chemicals that can damage fabric). The spun silk might even shrink if put in contact with water. But you do have to get the urine out one way or the other or the structural integrity of the silk might be damaged. My only suggestion is to try dampening it in an inconspicuous place: if the dyes don't run, you can try carefully rinsing through the stain with cold water, hoping the spun silk doesn't mat and the dyes on that part of the comforter don't run. What a pain. I'm sorry.

Do NOT put it in the washer, period!!!! Take it to the dry cleaners to properly clean it or it will come a part and deteriorate. You will be very disappointed if you wash it

I wouldn't take a chance on washing it. Take it to a dry cleaners.

You dont. You take it to a dry cleaner and ask them so someone on the internet that you don't even know tells you to wash it with bleach and coke and mentos. And you belive them.
