Munro's columns and short stories were published under the pen name 'Saki', who was the cupbearer in The Rubayat of Omar Khayyam, an ancient Persian poem.

There are some flippant answers to a serious question. What's in a name? Why do movie stars change their names? Would Roy Rogers have made it as Leonard Sly? Or Cary Grant as Archibald Leach? There are good reasons to change a name. My real name is very famous in the world of literature and I would not want potential buyers thinking they were buying a book from one of my illustrious namesakes when they were only buying mine. A pen name too should be memorable and pronounceable if it's going to make an impact. A serious subject indeed.
