Firstly the consolation answer - it is not only the case in USA, it is pretty much a global thing, just USA is naively blatant about it.
Now the reason why - because your society places too much emphais on competition, glory to the winner, survival of the fittest. That leads to ego enhancement, which leads to desire for worthiness through public recognition. Which leads to egoistic worthiness-greedy indiviuals competiting to get to the most powerful position.
All your politicians are power hungry.
And your society thinks that the powerful person has the right to be respected and followed.
If you want to continue in such a way then please choose your Presidents more wisely.
Firstly they should be psychoanalyzed - to make sure that he or she (if ever!) is sane, intelligent, has removed lust for power from their minds, is basically honest and authentic person who does not have an inferiority complex. That is the reason why most politicans are in that profession to try prove to themselves that they are not unworthy.
Secondly, they should be qualified for the job - they should understand modern economics, and have the best degrees from the best university in social studies.
Then you will have an intelligent President who does not need to lie to you.
And meanwhile - stop automatically respecting the President, he should earn your respect.
If you need to automatically respect someone then get a king/queen or have the President be an honorary role with a Prime Minister doing the real work.

Because the brains of so many Americans have actually been educated and rotted by the Rupert Murdock's Fox Channel's Reality TV Shows and can no longer define reality from fantasy! Why are those Foc Channel supporting NeoCon Zionists so set on attacking Liberal Arts Universities and Colleges that have for centuries bred so many of America's best citizens, instead of going after those dumb Reality TV shows that only bring those in front of the Fox Cameras their few minutes of warped and ridiculous over-the top acts of fame to serve as America's idiotic heroes and models?

You think its a lie? You ever been to Iraq? or Afghanistan? or ever ben in the military. Most Americans cant handle the truth. The media wanted this President to fail before we went to war. This garbage of fighting a politically correct war is what Bush got trapped into. I say turn off the cameras, pull out the media, take off the gloves and kick their *** for once and for all. Let the military do waht they do best...and leave the policing to whoever is left after the smoke clears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but your claims are unfounded so therefor, you will need to show proof, and sources. What you call a surge is what our generals on the ground call reinforcements to the troops already in Iraq. Hey, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and many other Liberals have called for reinforcements in troops, and now, just because it's Bush's ideal, it's a bad ideal. That I believe is called playing politics, and it's ashamed that you're drinking their kool-aide. Don't assume just because it's your opinion that everyone feels that way. Most good people want proof.
Here’s Nancy Pelosi in her pre-Speaker days on May 30, 2004, on Meet The Press:
MR. RUSSERT: Would you send more American troops in order to stabilize the situation?
REP. PELOSI: Yes.
To be fair, she was trying to say that we should get international troops to go, but Russert asked her (several times) that if they refused, should we send American troops, and her answer was a clear-cut “yes”.

How many times will this question get asked? The "lie" was bad information, but for whatever reason we are there. We need to finish as soon as possible, clean up and then come home.

I have no idea........(sigh). Some people are just determined to go through the Bush Presidency with their rose-colored glasses on, refusing to see the truth. Those people cannot be reasoned with.

I don't think we can stop the bull$hit he vomits out. And I don't think the majority of Americans believe him.
The problem is that the media doesn't call him on it (except for Olberman). This leads many of us who don't believe a word he says to think that we are all alone when in reality we are BY FAR in the majority.
