NC may not be all that cold, but it's humid. That green stuff is algae, which is a bane to many Southern homes. The combination of a convenient porous surface, humidity, ocassional sunshine and plenty of warmth, are ideal for an algae colony. Try mixing a cup or two of plain old bleach in a gallon of water and brush it on the green stuff with a coarse bristle-brush. You'll need a lot more than one gallon, of course. Let it set for awhile, then hose off with a high-pressure nozzel on your garden hose. This should help. You could also put diluted bleach in a sprayer, and spray it lightly every few months to discourage new green stuff from growing there.

There is a product I use thats sold by Tru Value Hardware, its called House Wash and is under thier name brand. You put it in a garden sprayer, it comes in a gallon jug, and spray it onto the house. I brush it with a soft brush on a handle. Then rinse it off.It seems to keep the green off for about 2 years. Use Gloves.

Rent or buy a power washer to spray it off, just washing it will not do the job. The NEXT time it is painted make sure the paint contains ingredient which fight mold and mildew.

Rent a power washer and use water and bleach(50/50). What you have is is a moss. The bleach should kill it for a while. Good Luck.
