im 15 now, started lifting when i was 14 i bench about 160, and i started bench at 85, so in one year 80 pounds i gues could be "hardcore" and yet ive also grown an inch in this time, currently 5'9"

I was always told that it was 15-16. If one does it any earlier than this, they may stunt their growth, b/c the bones are trying to grow and lifting weights would stop the growth. I suppose if a person younger than this wanted to lift weights, they could, but just take it very easy, no hardcore or intense exercises (e.g. weights above 60 pounds)

You shouldn't start lifting weights until you are at least 12. If you start lifting before age 12 your are putting yourself at risk. This is because your muscles are not yet ready to be lifting weights.

Body weright exercises can be done at any age. I would hold off using weights until they are 13 -14.

There is absolutely no proof to suggest that weight training stunts one's growth.

once a child enters middle school it is safe for them to start resistance training.

there is absolutely no data to support that lifting weights stunts growth if done at any early age...it's nothing but unsubstantiated rhetoric...
