the best gift a chick ever gave me was "I really hate valentines day, and if you buy or do one special thing for me I will break up with you" and she was really clear about it, so I didnt buy/do anything special for her, and it worked out fine... Pick out somthing that will make you remember the day. So it will be the "awwww, you still have that, I got you that on valentines day!"
