What do you think of Denmark? Does it have a good or a bad reputation? Have you ever been to Denmark? Would you like to?

I live in Denmark myself, and are curious as to how people around the world think about our country.

Beautiful country and incredibly pleasant, especially during the summer. Everyone speaks good English, good beer, good polser, good nightlife, and I couldn't think of a better place to enjoy summer afternoons than Nyhavn.
My only qualms: it seems like everyone smokes, my clothes smelled like smoke after being in the Copenhagen train station for just 30 minutes!
When I was last in Copenhagen, I noticed a lot of guys with bald, shaven heads - were they what I thought they were (neo-Nazis), or was that just the fashion at the time?

The second answer is factually incorrect on several points. Over 90% of Danes are members of Folkekirken, the State Church of Denmark (Lutheran). Divorce rates are low because marriage rates are very low. It's generally socially acceptable to be slutty and fuc* around, to have babies with people you are not married to, and have custody of your children only every other week only. And why not? The state pays child support enough for mothers to make a lifestyle of it. Denmark is one of the "coalition of the willing" 20 or so nations with troops in Iraq currently.

Apart from the various failed social experiments on its citizenry, Denmark is still generally a very pleasant place to live. Winters are rainy and cold and dark most of the day, but summer is glorious with nearly 18 hours of daylight. Taxes are very high, taking near 50% of wages to pay for daycare from age 1 year, college and university for your entire life, and health care similar to a PPO in the States (good thing Germany, Sweden, and Norway can take some of the hundreds of cancer treatment patients on the 6 month+ average wait list). Housing in it's capital is extremely expensive, and cost of living in general is quite high.

There is relatively low crime rate, if you take out bicycle theft, and shoplifters under 18 who just get a slap on the wrist. Racial tensions have been high due to the Danish newspaper "send us your cartoons of Muhammed" contest last year.

But overall, it's not so bad.

I've heard that Denmark is beautiful and the people are very nice. I've always wanted to have my picture taken with the little mermaid statue in Copenhagen harbor

Denmark is one of the ten best countries in the world...good economy, good educational system and health care, low crime rate, low divorce rate, low unemployment, low involvement in war, well respected in the world, low infant mortality rate.

It is predominately an atheist country with over 50% of residence there claiming to not believe in God. They are doing wonderfully! Please don't go wreck it for them by trying to send them your guilt ridden, superstitious missionaries! (Incidently, they claim to be Lutheran for social purposes.)

Danes are reasonable, logical people with a healthy life style. The only country doing better would be Sweden with 75% of the people claiming to be atheist. Their economy and overall well being is even stronger!

I would LOVE to live in either Denmark, Sweden or Norway!!!! Japan is number 4 on the list of high percentage of atheists and good economy, health care, etc but I don't like Japans lack of gender equality. Denmark, Sweden and Norway have strong equal rights and women and men are given the same opportunities and responsibilities. Being of European descent, I would LOVE to live in the parts of Europe that were smart enough to stay out of all war for over 100 years!

I'm sick of hearing other Americans saying we have the best country on earth...it simply isn't true! We have the largest military and no one dares refute that but to say we're the best at anything except world military domination is a fallacy.
