When I was 13 I hated babysitting, so I did chores for neighbors. We also had an elderly community near where I lived so I would go over and see if anyone needed help with anything. Senior citizens usually don't pay that well because of fixed income(sometimes they'll barter a nice cake or something yummy), but they usually have plenty they want done that they can't do themselves like planting flowers in the yard or moving furniture or cleaning out closets. You can also try posting flyers in your local grocery store for odd jobs. I know alot of moms that just don't have time to get everything done and could use a helping hand to do things like heavy cleaning (drapes and stuff like that), and gardening. If you prove yourself to be a hard worker you will start getting more calls. It also helps sometimes if you have friends that will help. My brothers used to go around the neighborhood when they were 14 (twins) and they would come home with a good $100 for 4-6 lawns, but they did everything, mowing, edging, cleaning up the grass. Try to think of things that you are willing to do as well as things people in your neighborhood may need done and make a flier. You should make prices negotiable until people know what a great worker you are, then you can set prices because you will have more customers, but you can still give discounts to your first customers or special customers. Remember that you are 13 and people your age have proven themselves to be unreliable (not your fault just a fact) so you will have to work hard to prove yourself. Good Luck.

You could be a bagger at the local super market. They take people as young as 14. But your main (and only job) should be bieng a kid. Once you start working, you will be working for the rest of your life and you will live a long long life. Concentrate in school and good things will come your way. Trust me, I started working with my mother (cleaning houses) and you really can become dependent on the money. People are happier when they dont need or want money. Take your time bieng a child because it only comes once in your life and you will never get the time back. (no matter how much you pray to God , he wont redo time). Have fun with life and let your parents worry about money.

If you go to school and get a good job, you will be able to better care for your parents later on in life. You will make more money than by working now and not going to school.
Sorry to hear that you are in a bad situation. I feel for you.

Lots of 13 year olds have after school jobs that give them a measure of independance from their parents. I think it's great that you're babysitting, especially because you can create a resume out of your past experience. Get someone to help you create a resume before you start applying for jobs - that way potential employers will know you are serious. You don't want to include your parents as references, but maybe you could get a letter of recommendation from one of the families you work for already.
A resume is only one page long, lists your name and telephone number at the top and gives point form notes about the jobs you've had under the heading 'EXPERIENCE'. If you've only had one, don't worry about it. Because you are young, you can also list other experience that translates into the work world. For instance, if you are a member of a school team or sport, if you have good grades or if you can get a letter of recommendation from a teacher stating that you are a mature, responsible person, then you have more stuff for the experience section of your resume. After exerience, list your interests (under a heading as well). It's usually a good idea to keep this list short and relavent. For instance, if you wanted to work in sales or at a cash register, you might list hanging out with friends and other social activities. If you can't think of anything, list 'reading' and mention that you're familiar with the internet. Make sure to spell check the resume and show it your parents or teacher so they can pick out any mistakes you may have made.

What job can you get? Well, retail jobs at chain coffee shops, bookstores and in local stores can be fun. Because you are so young, it might take them a while to trust you and give you jobs where you're working with people directly and making decisions. Just keep applying to all the places you are interested in working. When I was 14, I worked as an assistant in a daycare after school. It was fun and it gave me a bit of extra cash.

Incidently, having jobs when you are young ensures that you will have something to put on your resume when you are older. Even if the job is boring, try to stick it out for a few months so it will make a good impression in the future.

Best of luck,
Nicole

As a person that does hiring, you want to make yourself appear as mature and professional as possible. One of the ways a person will appear responsible is the way you express yourself.
I stopped counting at 12 the "cute" errors you made in your question.

If I am going to trust the reputation of my company with anyone, including a teenager they are going to have to really impress me.

To tell you the truth, a combination of babysitting, yard work, newspaper delivery, and all kids of odd jobs will impress an employer as someone who hustles and works hard.
Good Luck!

I understand your situation. Take some of your down time to study and do school work. At your time of life, friends, play and education are the most important. Appreciate your babysitting opportunities and use the money wisely. When you get to "real" working age, you'll look back and wish you didn't work so hard when you were young.

Thats about it cause the labor laws prohibit you from working at a real job with 40 hours a week........
The only time you have to make some money is the weekend..... You are in school right ? Try doing errands for your neighbors.......How about walking their dogs ? Raking leaves, cleaning yards, cleaning houses....

But i can tell you from experience that a job messes with your school life and ur social life tremendously. So whiloe your young enjoy it and dont worry about money. _ AnnaMo

It's pretty much babysitting...because at 13 you're probably not going to find any good jobs. You shouldn't be concerned with money at your age. Wait until you're like 15 or 16.

You are 13, so how do you feel about labor work? Meaning, shoveling snow in someones driveway and telling them to pay you what they believe you are worth?

I have to say that hard labor is your best bet if you don't want the cush jobs you've mentioned.
