not only is it immoral, but if the guy had any sense, then beckham and people of his type would speak out against this and take a massive pay cut. however and sadly, he is so full of himself, his arrogance speaks volumes. for him to say he is not doing this for the money-only to accept £70k a week, shows what a hypocrite he is. and you're right, when you said about how people would not be saying the same thing. but for me, i would most definitely turn down £70 grand to kick a ball around. people will say i'm nuts but frankly, i don't give a damn about how much i earn. money for me doesn't buy happiness and besides, i'd rather earn that money in another way, rather than kick a ball around. its absurd that sportspeople should be paid such huge sums of money for what they do. isn't the whole point of sport about the taking part, and not about scooping huge financial rewards? if it is, then sadly in today's era, that has been surely lacking in what is now a greed-ridden profession. and anyway, in truth nobody is really worth £70 K or over- for me i don't care how famous he or she is. a-list or not, they don't deserve that amount of money

I agree that the wages should be capped but even if they are it will not go towards helping pay wages for the people who do more important jobs. I think it's a ridiculous that one person can be paid this much, but he does contribute a lot of his money and time that people don't give him credit for.
He works extremely hard with and for numerous charities (which he also donates to) and he is constantly working to help children who want to get into football. Sport does save lots of children who are born into poverty and would not get these chances without him and other sports people.
So yes, I agree this money is crazy but I do wish people would see him as more than just a footballer - he does much more than what others earning crazy money do.

He isn'lt worth 15 cents to me. All sports figures are overpaid and overvalued. I think the big money should be given to the military persons who serve and die for our country. The thing is that if our hardworking military people didn'lt make the sacrifices they do and their families do, our country wouldnl't be free and those great sports stadiums that our Heroe, yeah right, sports people wouldn't be able to play in them as they would be used for torturing people like Sadam's sons did at the sports stadium in Iraq.

I think its absolutely ridiculous! No sports star is worth that much. I agree with what someone else said. Give it to the military men and women who have, are and will be making sure they can earn that exorbitant sum!

I agree with you, it's bizarre and shows how unbalanced some parts of the world are. There should be an upper limit on pay for sports people only doing their 'job'.

you need to remember that brand beckham is a very powerful force and he gets the majority of his cash from sponsorship not from the clubs! if you think that the usa has around 300million people as apposed to the uk's 30 million or whatever it is, they are paying a lot more for bringing them more custom because believe it or not people will buy products purely on the basis of who it promoted by! it is us the consumers that create this money pot that has built brand beckham not them! give him a break!!!
