I read on one article that Shawn would call Devlin at the pizza store he works at. Maybe Shawn was by himself in the apartment. Why didn't he call his family?

He was probably filled with a whole bunch of lies. Watch I know my first name is stepehen or read the book. It gives insight on what kinds of things those wack jobs say and do.

Well one reason why Shawn may not have wanted to cantact his parents may be because Devlin may have a phone where u recieve the phone bill and it shows who you have called and when, Not a great idea in my point of view! With the computer contact you can check the history on the computer so it will show if Shawn has contacted anyone!! I would strongly discourage him from doing that too!! But everyone should be thankful that Shawn is home, alive and well!! Thats basically all that counts!!
Also i agree with the 80"sredhead it is their business!! Noone else needs to no! Shawn May not want everyone to know what has happened!! Eveeryone should stay out, right now i am listening to the inteview and it has clearly explained Shawn dosent want to talk so why should people ask to know! Leave them alone!!

When a young person is kidnapped and systematically beaten down and terrorized (for months or years), the mind becomes fragmented from the abuse. The terror is bigger than anything else - it's an evil perpetrated on a young and malleable mind. A child (and even some adults) cannot grasp the "logic" that would be needed to rationalize an escape bc of all of the psychological harm that's been done. He was probably beaten, abused, threatened, isolated and then felt shame - all of which probably kept him at the abuser's hands. Think back to when you were a young and impressionable child and how much you needed your parents protection and love -then not to have it. Do not judge these children!!!! I hope that scum Devlin never sees the light of day.

First of all he wasn't a small child Mr wise!!! This is a runaway. It is much more SENSATIONAL to call this a rescue, but in shawns case this child was not terrorized or mind managed. You simply do not see the type of rebellion or self expression that Shawn displays in his facial piercings when someone is being terrorized. Also the pride he has taken in touting his individuality by posting photos of his handiwork online is a sign of a normal kid seeking accolades for his "coolness" not something that people who are terrorized think of doing. This kid was "taken" when he was 11, which is right about the time that boys start to rebel, they start insisting on their space and searching for a way to identify themselves seperate from their parents. Even the Ornsby kid appears to be of the same pubescent era. By the looks of him and his sister they would both fit right in with shawn. Rebellious kids who just want to be free to be themselves.

Probably crack or some other sort of addiction that this Devlin guy provided. Seriously. Or he faced some other sort of danger at home. He looked pretty strung out, and I just cannot possibly believe that someone would be a willing accomplice like that.

As a woman who was victimize myself in my early 20's, and then as a state social worker later in life who's interviewed abuse victims; allow me to suggest the possible lies the abductor may have terrorized Shawn with.
"I'm a secret member of the mafia and have people watching, not only you, but your entire family at all times. I've had their phone tapped. Your phone calls will all be monitored. If you attempt to contact them or run away, you will all be killed. Your family will all be dead before you can get home to them."
"Don't even think of contacting the police. They are all my buddies who hang out with me at the Pizza place where I work. Most of them have sex with boys too and they will just hand you back over to me. Then I will have to punish you severly. And if you get to be too much trouble, I'll just have to kill you."
"Having sex with me as you have been doing is illegal. If you were even able to find a police officer that's not one of my friends, once they find out what's been going on, you will also be arrested and thrown in jail."
"Your parents would be disgusted with you if they found out you've been having gay sex with me. They would not want such a disgusting boy back. It's better to just let them think you are dead."

I hope you get the idea. These might not be the exact lies, but I bet they are very similar. And don't forget, he was only 11 when captured. He could not drive, did not know the way home, had no money for food or to hire a ride, and was likely afraid to ask anyone for help not knowing who he could trust. So to say he could've just walked out of there is unfair.

Not to sound mean, but it isn't for us to know. These are other ppls lives. If something like that happened to you, would you want all this attention? Leave it be, in fact, I think the media should back off too. IF he ever decides to talk about the situation, it shouldn't be to try to clear up the rumors and speculation. If anything, just keep Shawn and Ben along with their families in your prayers.

Devlin probably threatened to hurt/kill Shawn or his family if he tried to make contact or escape.

OMG some people are too stupid or just too mean! Please just look at this Eileen's post!! Are you proposing that Michael Devlin is just and innocent warm-hearted person who was just too damn generous to take in two rebelious boys and keep their lives perfect. Try to have in mind that Ben is a straight A student. I just cannot belive this! Too many smart people these days!

That's obvious. He was threated by the kidnapper (hearing this on the new's) that maybe he and his family would be killed if he did anything wrong and the other sad part is he was probably brained washed. I'm sure it was alot like the Elizabeth Smart case. Oh how we soon forget.
