I don't know why, but we can ask people for progress. Mabey push the scientest to the limits, I don't know.

The technology is available but human evolution hasn't progressed enough to handle the safety issues of it.
We have many deaths on a two dimensional level...imagine the deaths, accidents and debris (people throwing trash out of the windows) that would happen if we were three dimensional transportation. The thing has been invented already and is up for possible production but people don't look where they are going on the highway. How do you think the public would function if you added up and down to that casualty list?
Safety is an issue. People's awareness just isn't ready for such a complication!!!
