I am 29 weeks and recently have revolting acid in the back of my throat for most of the day and especially at night. It bubbles up and then stays there. I have had a sore throat recently too which makes the acid really painful. I have tried drinking milk, not eating fatty foods, small meals, antiacid tablets (gaviscon) but none seem to work. Any suggestions please?

This may sound horrible, but it worked everytime during my pregnancy.
Mix 1tsp of baking soda with 1 oz of water stir and drink.
The taste is bland but it really working to take the acid away.

For the soreness try a saltwater rinse, salt & warm water mix and gargle (dont swallow just gargle) or Chloraseptic spray, it is a phenol/oral anesthetic sore throat spray, you can also get them in cough drops, works very well for sore throats and safe to use while pregnant.

Milk sometimes can irrate the sore throat more, depends on the person, anything warm like teas will help with the soreness.

Hope you feel better

I have had crippling acid reflux for 3 years now, so I know how tough it can be. None of the OTC drugs worked very well for me either, but I'd have to say that Maalox was the best of all of them. Occasionally it would provide me with a little bit of relief. It is good to eat fruits such as apples to maintain a good level of fiber, but you don't want too much fiber, as that can make the reflux worse. I'm on prevacid which helps quite a bit, and it is relatively cheap for a medicine, but I am not aware of your financial situation. Milk can help with the reflux a little bit just to coat your esophagus. I also put a few blankets under the head of my mattress, which helped so the acid will not rise when I sleep. Also, cutting out chocolate, caffeine, and spicy foods should help a bit. The doctors recommended that I stay away from tomatoes but they actually seemed to help me. Also a good idea is to wait a good 2 hours before laying down after you eat. If the symptoms continue to get worse, you may want to talk to your doctor to consider an endoscopy, where they can look at the inside of your stomach to make sure there's nothing more going on. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you

Take the liquid acid reducers, they medicate and they sooth I took mylanta mostly at night so I could sleep better, and during the day I did all the other you mentioned. My doctor said mylanta was safe enough. You do need to check with your doctor first before you take anything.

Heart Burn during pregnancy is pretty common and like urinating frequently you can only prevent it some, but if you have it, you will most likely continue to have it off and on. Mylanta was the only thing that gave me much releif at all.

Sounds like you have acid reflux, a nasty thing indeed. Go to the drug store and buy some Prilosec and take for 14 days and see if that works. If it does, you are probably going to be ok. If not, you have to go see the doctor for stronger medication. Acid Reflux or GERD can be nasty and can errode your esophagus and cause you untold problems. Don't let it go.

I have found that taking half a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water, stirred good and drink down will really help with this problem but if it continues you really should see your doctor about it and he/she can prescribe something stronger for you. This is something that most pregnant women go through during most of their pregnancy and it's a real pain in the throat and milk will not help at all.
Like I said, if it gets worse or continues you should consult your doctor, okay.

Try TUMS, I use the kind with Calcium. Friend of mine told me about it and it really helps! I am 36 weeks and I had such a bad acid that I couldn't sleep at night and this is the only thing that helped me.

TUMS or Mylanta. I go no where w/out my TUMS but my sister swore by liquid Mylanta. I think TUMS are good because they have calcium too and you're subsiding the acid while getting your calcium intake as well. TUMS saves me!

They say that you'll have a hairy baby, but in my case, mine were both bald. ;)

Good luck!!

Eat an apple a day. It's the best natural cure for heartburn and indigestion. Also do not lie down for a half hour or so after you eat. Sounds like reflux to me. Ask your doctor for a safe medication.

hi-Im sorry, that is one of the worst parts of pregnancy--
you can try eating a couple slices of bread-which will 'soak up' the acid.
& what works for me is laying on my left side for a bit.
I keep apple slices near my bed at night which is also supposed to curb acid/heartburn.
and my good old tums, lol

Eat a lot of bread. It will help absorb the acid.

As with everything in pregnancy, this too will pass. Just hang in there!
