I'm afraid your friend is going to have to do the same thing we all do when everything else fails...read the instructions! His nationality really has nothing to do with it. People from the Faulklands are just as capable as the rest of us, so don't blame him for that. Those things are not too difficult, and the instructions should be straightforward. Most of them are based on the idea of a continuous low-voltage electric current going through all the wires. If there's a break at any point, it sets off the alarm. So if his is one of those simpler ones, about the only real danger would be in the "hard wire" connection to the electric lines. The rest of it is all low voltage and if he gets something wrong, the alarm will tell him so. The more complicated ones, and especially the ones that notify the police or a security company, really should come with installation provided.
