I was told that as long as the water temperature doesn't vary too quickly that goldfish adapt well to most temps.
I've noticed today that our fish are pretty sluggish...the house got quite cold overnite.

No they do best at room temp. I guess if your house is real cold it would benifit from a heater, but not any higher than 72*

I have found that a light at the top of the tank works. (Not flourecent) if you really want to warm up the tank a little bit and have a flourecent light just get a heat lamp. They are about 10 bucks at your local hardware store. They will add just enough warmth to make up for your cold house.

Goldfish do best in cold water--they are a cold water fish. They do best in 62-70 degrees F.

Goldfish prefer but don't need cooler temps. Room temps are fine and no heater is required in your tank. Goldfish are in fact related to Koi and Carp who live in lakes and streams indigenous to there countries.

goldfish do not need a heated tank. It doesn't matter. they are very sturdy fish.

NO it likes its water cool and if its heated then it will die
