My children were not thrilled in this position either. Few things. Start her off on her tum for like a minute (or however long she lasts) and slowly increase her tummy time each day, or start at 30 sec then add 10 sec. every other day. This way she will think she will not be left that way forever and she doesn't have to fall asleep but can enjoy it. Also get down with her so she is eye to eye with you.
The other thing is when you are holding her - I will try to explain this clearly- lie her across your arms/hands so she is in a belly down position but you are still holding her (this is also good for gassy/colicky babies). I don't think that is very clear so I hope you know what I am talking about. Her belly would be in one of your hands and her legs would fall to either side of your arm and then her head/chest would be resting in your hand/arm while her arms would fall on either side of your arm. That way she may find that transition easier. Whatever you do - do not leave her in that position to cry, it will just make her hate it more. (but wow.. what an easy way to have her fall asleep!)

My baby was the same way (and I think a lot of babies are like that). What I do is I lay down with her so she can see my face. Then, I move from side to side to get her to lift up and look at me. You could also hold a toy for her to look at. She'll probably still grunt and whine a little, but seeing mommy will probably distract her a little.
Good luck with tummy time. My daughter is 4.5 months old and has only rolled over once so far because I didn't give her enough tummy time (according to her doctor). So keep up the good work!!

My baby hated tummy time, too. Don't worry your baby will still be fine even if she does not get a lot of tummy time. My baby liked a baby safe mirror so we would put that on the floor for her to look at. Get on your tummy next to her with your face close to hers, babies love staring into their parents eyes! Also, we somtimes placed a pillow (Boppy pillow) under her chest for tummy time and she seemed more comfortable like that. Even then she only tolerated it for a minute before getting worked up. Just keep trying several times a day even if only for a few seconds and she will like it more when she is older.

My daughter is 4 1/2 months old and she is the same way. I put her on her tummy on my bed and that seems to work for her. She still doesn't want to do it for very long but it gets her some time. Good Luck!

I nanny for twin 5 month old boys. One of them loves his tummy time and the other hates it. Some babies just don't like to be on their tummies. The one that doesn't like it is starting to get used to it though, now that he can roll him self over to get off his belly if he wants to. Be patient once she learns how to roll over she can control how much time is spent on her tummy. Until then contiune with the tummy time for as long as she can stand it. Tummy time is very important for upper body muscle development which will help when she begins to roll, crawl, and pull herself up.

I think you're starting it too soon.
I did tummy time at 4-5 months.
There has to be neck control.
There are so many other things to try, give something else a try, and come back to this later.

First off look at how your baby is when she is lying on her tummy. Is she perhaps gassy or her belly button ok- she could be protesting tummy time due to a hernia.

don't do it if she doesn't like it! why make your kid cry! I am an experience mom so I know these things.
your baby is a person, she is not going to like everything you have her do or eat so don't push it. go with the flow.
of course, as she grows older there will be things that you have to say no and yes to but that will come in time, for now, just keep her happy and all will be good.

They all hate it until they get strong enough to pull the head up and crawl, and that's what makes them work to do it. You could find something to make it interesting. I was lucky. The cat sat just out of reach and it seemed that getting the cat was her goal.

Nope, just keep it up. It's so crucial. At least if she's crying she's exercising her neck and muscles, it's preferable to lying there content but not getting anything out of it.
