It can be a number of problems. A: it's muted. B: your speaker plug is unplugged. C: Your sound driver is corrupted, so download a new one. D: your Speakers are damaged. E: your sound card fried, thus you must replace it (will be expensive if you want a high-end card). And finally it may be a virus, im not that great in vrus encyclopedia but im sure there are a few out there that do system wide changes for example disable sound and disable your network card. iIf your not sure whats wrong and you dont want to make any changes yourdelf I suggest you take it to Future Shop's Future Care or Best Buy's Geek Squad to pinpoint the exact problem.

If it's not the drivers..
It could be that you have a problem with your speakers or the connector on your pc.
To test the speakers you need to try them with another source - such as an ipod or a tape player. If they work ok then the problem is with your computer.
I had a problem with my onboard sound, made sure I had the correct drivers but still had a problem. In the end I spent £11 on a new soundcard, fitted it and everything was back to normal.

My dog recently pulled on the line to my speakers & I got the same effect!
So first check the plugs into the speakers, then the power to the speakers.

then go to control panel, hardware profiles and do the test there

iPod shuffle, iPod mini, iPod nano, and then the iPod. the iPod shuffle to me isn't well worth your cash in any respect. iPod mini is what I easily have and love; and that i think of it is greater useful than the nano given which you get greater on your fee. with $199 now a days you may basically get 500 songs whilst identifying to purchase the a 2gb nano; with $199 you will get a million,000 songs with the 4gb iPod mini the iPod nano is vast for the effortless music shoppers in case you question me. Like my pal Lisa or somebody youthful with out particularly some music "adventure" the iPod is the vast daddy, you will detect plenty on those issues. it is what to get in case you have have been given the money to get it.
