I had the procedure done twice, with each pregnancy that I had. The procedure was not painful at all and I felt no discomfort afterwords either. You lay down on a table. They clean the area where they will place the needle and they perform an ultrasound to make sure that the needle is inserted in an area away from the fetus. You feel a little pressure but that is it. You feel more discomfort from having blood drawn than you feel from having amino fluid drawn. It is quite normal to feel squeamish about the needle. I felt that way the first time as well. You need to try to relax because being tense will cause you the discomfort, more so than the actual reality of the procedure. Also, there are risks involved with the procedure but most medical procedures have a certain amount of risk involved. The benefits of the procedure out weigh the risk, in most cases.

Every individual has a method to relax. For some its deep, steady breathing. You could close your eyes and envision yourself in a place you love to be. The idea here is not to focus on your fear.

amniocentesis is a try done to experiment the toddler for the downs syndrome. that's continuously optionally available yet when u have a relatives historic past of down's syndrome or u r 35 years or more desirable in age on the time of being pregnant then u might want to be requested to have it. it really is somewhat painful as a needle is inserted into ur abdomen to take some pattern from the placenta. that's not continuously one hundred% ideal and consists of a million% chance of miscarriage as well. yet when u haven't any relatives historic past of down's syndrome and are below 35 years then all u'll be requested to have a blood try between 16-18 weeks of ur being pregnant.

I have not done the procedure, since this was not my specialty, but now a days with the medications and techniques, I do not think you will find it painful. You may even get twilight sleep.
