I have tried to measure this, and the fuse appears to be longer in certain circumstances and shorter in others. However, in general I rarely lose my temper in public or in private.
What does happen is that anger and blood pressure rises due to
a) need for food
b) minor irritations
c) major irritations
d) chemical imbalances in the brain caused by food, and other stimulants
e) too much caffeine
f) too much excercise followed by no excercise
g) a day or two after too much alcohol
... and so the list goes on and on.
What can happen is if you do not release that build up of adrenalin and aggression, and if that adrenalin and agression is sustained over a long period of provokation, then you might find that under certain stimulus and catalysts you go off the rails with anger. When this happens it is best to take a little bit of time off work, for everyone's safety including your own.
That is not to say that I cannot lose my temper. If I decide to create a scene you can be sure it is because loss of temper would be a useful tool, rather than something which could be used against me. Being angry, and displaying anger and agression, are two very different things. Poker is not played by people whose true emotions are displayed.

I do generally have a long fuse, but I can lose my temper, and I do mean seriously lose my temper..... Like the time when I was out shopping with my 5-year old and he started kicking me and calling me the ugliest things he could think of (I'd denied him a candy bar ½ an hour before supper....!) (For instance: You f....... Assh...... !), - I was so angry that I literally shook, tears were streaming down my face, and, oh glory, the red haze blurred my sight. I remember dumping him in the backseat of the car, telling him not to move a muscle or else....! He went straight to bed (no supper!), and I didn't talk to him for 3 whole days. My husband took pity on his son and explained to him why mother was angry. He's talked nicely to me ever since......

Anger is a blind weapon, once unleashed it can strike anyone.
I used to be a hothead when I was younger. Over the years, I've learned that keeping a level head is generally more effective and that anger is a useful tool if it is channeled in a productive manner.
Of course, in cases where personal safety of the self or others is at stake, that's a different scenario.

All I really want to know is what you're hoping to accomplish with that avatar. Are you looking to play on the desperation and insecurity of lonely males or are you simply trying to promote your porn site and/or web cam? Either way. In a forum like this, I'm afraid, there can be no explanation other than an ulterior motive of some sort. So, which is it?

I am 6ft.8" . 329lbs with 16eee feet and used to hit people quite often .now I take medicine.because I did that to often. I will at least think about it before I hit people.now.but regret sometimes not beating the tar out of people when they insult me.or steal or cheat me.so really I don't know which is best ,a quick temper or one that is now reserved.theres something to be said for civility and manners and also something to be said about being a true American redneck that wont take any crap off people. there always needs to be a good balance in life.which is hard to obtain .Peace.

Everybody says that about their temper. We say that because we want to give the impression we have some control over our temper. This is a contradiction though because the 'red mist' is confirmation that we have lost our pemper and all control with it!
There is no length to this fuse...it is a meaningless concept.

Long...if my legs were as long I would be happy...or better still if it were my tongue I could make many a lady smile...that said, it does take an awful long time before I let fly, but I do remain calm and usually only raise my voice..and swear...

I've got a really long fuse. Look out when I explode though.
It's apparently not very good for the old health though.

Same here. I have a tolerance for ignorance, but when people choose not to do something, then I get angry.
