I am very confused about this as well. My Dr. told me not to drink herbal tea, because the full effects of herbs on pregnancy are unknown. There isn't very much information out there about this.

I think it is unlikely that one cup of tea would cause a miscarriage. Even if herbs are bad, some women do crack and still deliver babies!

There are certain types of herbs which have been used as "home remedies" for abortions.
In the first place, they don't work very well; in fact they usually don't work at all except perhaps in extremely high doses.
In the second place, sleepytime tea was probably chamomile, which is OK.
It is wise to be conscious and aware of what you are putting into your body when you are pregnant, but mild herb teas are nothing to worry about.
Remember at LEAST 10% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Probably closer to 20%, if we were able to count the very early ones that happen before a woman even knows she's pregnant.
It is sad and difficult, but often it is just nature's way, too.

My daughter had a baby in Sept. and it was a high risk pregnancy. She was told by her Dr. not to drink sleepy time tea because Chamomile, the ingredient in sleepy time tea can induce labor. I am very sorry for your lose and really don't know if this is the reason you had a miscarriage, it could just have been my daughter was not to drink it because she was having a hard time carrying the baby.

no-the tea did not cause it.

Your body miscarries because something inside it is not able to handle a pregnancy at that time.
Nothing you or anyone else did caused it-your body just wasnt ready to carry a baby to term yet.

I don't know but if I were a pregnant woman I wouldn't eat or drink anything that could have chemicals in it that I could help, even caffeine.
