I asked this before but I think I put it in the wrong category so I figured I'd try this one.

I hate my last name, so I wouldn't feel threatened. Tradition means a lot to some, but not a lot to others. I would think that anyone that truly loves the other person would accept the idea, but that is only my opinion.

If a name is the only thing holding things up, then it's pretty silly.

The guy would have to be very strong, mature, and secure with himself to be alright with it. I see nothing wrong with it at all, but many guys may feel a little threatened by that idea.

I had a professor in college whose wife and he each added a piece of their first names and came up with a totally new last name. I thought that was pretty cool.

No, that is getting to be a common practice. Some women just want to keep their maiden, some have career that their maiden name is on record. Some have diploma's like Doctors, CPA etc and it is really their own decision to make, not the man's.

Every woman I know who regularly uses her maiden name does so for professional reasons. Their husbands don't feel threatened, they feel like they married rich.

Um... not threatened... but I would refuse. I wouldn't force my wife to take my last name, which is why I also wouldn't take hers.

It's a little out of the norm for a man to change his name...I would suggest she keep her's and he keep his.....it's legal.....good luck
