So cancel your Gmail account and start a new one. Just make sure you tell your friends and contacts your new email address. I like to use a business email address and when I start getting too much spam I just close the account and move on. I have another email address that I use only for private communications from my friends and family.

This link will show you a selection of free email addresses: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLR,GGLR:2006-49,GGLR:en&q=free+email.

You need to figure ways to keep your email address from getting out there so much. Everywhere you post, if your email address is able to be found, you'll get put on a spam list. There are bots that go all over the net gathering people's email address to use. The excuse is that "if even 1 of these people respond, it's worth the money", but I don't buy that. I think this is just another way for people to be jerks and get away with it. To me it's almost on the level of someone with the mentality of a cyber stalker.

Most people have more than 1 email address. 1 they use to post with and let it get out there. With that address they can just let it fill up with the trash and not worry about it. Then they have they're regular address that they give friends. You can't just blurt it out online either though. Make sure to type it in a way that it would confuse a computer such as - you_at_yahoo.com. Of course letting people know to use @.

It's NOT gmail.........If you are getting that much spam, either you have signed up for crap offers too many times, or you post your email address on a webpage somewhere. Spammers use the same spidering technology that search engines do, they just use it to find email addresses. Spam, unfortunately is just a side effect of having an email address. I set up an email account once just to see how long it would take for spammers to find it. It took about 4 days to get my first spam email. The best thing you can do is NEVER list your email on any profile, and do not list it in community/member directories.

I must be unbelievably lucky. I get maybe 2 or 3 a week! I have the usual multiple addresses, one at Hotmail, one at Yahoo, and my main ISP address and I get very little spam. And yes, I do use news-groups and forums, and various other things.
