If it is leaking there is really no way to repair it.
For the cost of getting it checked and refilled. It will be cheaper in the long run to replace it.
Good Luck

if you are having the same company do the refill they have a legal obligation to find the leak not just refill it it is part of the CFC regs. some leaks are very difficult to find especially if they are in the coil area. joints can be checked with a soap solution or leak detector. is it possible that your unit is a quick disconnect unit? if so you can tighten the joints be careful to use a backup wrench so that you don't twist and damage the tubing. be sure the covers for the schreader valves are tight, there may be one on the A coil in the furnace plenum also. if the condensing unit has isolation valve4s be sure the covers for these are also tight. it should not take even a full hour for the tech to find a leak. service call+one hour. try wrapping the condensing unit in plastic a day or so be for the tech comes out be sure to get the connecting joints inside the bag and tape the bag around the tubes leading into the house. when the tech comes out he can push his sniffer into the bag and the leak can at least be narrowed down or this area can be eliminated from question. do not operate the unit while wrapped.

leak checking a unit about $200,but you can do the same by using a solution of 75% liq soap to 25% water.put in a spray bottle turn unit off and spray on coils, might have to remove panel on front of ahu.any leaks are going to bubble.if in a line between units i would replace and if in coil might be wise to get new system or have a qualified tech to replace coils

relies upon on who you call and the position you're. be sure a minimum of $one hundred, and it is going up from there. in case you want to maintain some greenbacks, you are able to placed an ad on your close by craigslist, and also you may likely locate a tech keen to moonlight it for you. good success.
