Oceanside is basicaly a major city, but the biggest one around is San Diego. Oceanside is in North San Diego County. San Diego basically stretches from the Mexican border to Camp Pendleton.
Oceanside has basically everything you'd be looking for in a big city. For concerts, you'll have to go down to San Diego or north to Irvine. The closest big airports are San Diego, Irvine, and LAX.
Oceanside has a couple of Wal-Marts, a couple movie theaters, plenty of shopping and restaurants, golfing, jobs, etc. Carlsbad has a nice beach.

O-man, I heard about OC's racism for years before moving here. It goes back to the 1980's and the number of OC skinheads that used to attend the OC punk shows, which there were a lot of. The racism doesn't seem to exist anymore. If you're a skater or a surfer than San Clemente will be heaven for you. It's a great place to live for outdoor activities. Funny enough, San Onofre is a popular place to surf and it's in the shadow of the nuclear power plant. Trestles is another famous San Clemente surf spot. SC has a lot of festivals, usually by the pier. Not all of San Clemente is wealthy, there are some very modest neighborhoods there. You can frequently hear the artillery drills from neighboring Camp Pendleton. You won't be the only slightly dark skinned mixed race person in San Clemente. They do exist there. I don't know about the teenagers since I'm not one, but they seem ok, some are even very polite. It's a safe, clean, low crime town.

I live in Oceanside! I like it here.
Other cities around here are Carlsbad, San Marcos, Vista & Escondido. Driving to San Diego can be a real pain sometimes when you drive down "the 5."
If you have kids, stay away from Oceanside High because of gangs. El Camino is better. Watch out for gang areas and sections that have large illegal alien populations.
