Grading the work every day for an actual grade would be almost impossible. Even if you only have 20 students, you're teaching them all the different subjects. Imagine the work load of grading 3 or 4 assignments per student per night! You'd have no time to do anything else!
A much more realistic solution is to just check the homework for completion. Then you can take 10 minutes in the morning to go over a few math or grammar problems from the previous night's assignments, or have a couple kids share their writing or talk about what they read.
The drawback of this system is that kids may be doing the work incorrectly and not getting feedback. So you have to be careful that when you're checking for completion, you also quickly glance at the work to make sure they did it right for the most part. If most of the class did it wrong, you may have to go over the entire homework, or re-teach the relevant lesson(s). If only a few kids did it wrong, you can have a small group or individual conference to go over it.

I teach 4th and 5th Grade Math. I check daily homework for completion (each assignment is worth 2 points) If it is not done the first day, the student may show it to me the following day for 1 point. As for actually taking a grade, I give quizzes or will tell them ahead of time that "I'm collecting tonight's homework, for a grade, tomorrow" but when I do that the homework is usually a review assignment. To me, the point of homework if for the students to try the problems on their own to see if they understand it, and if they don't, the next day they should ask questions. I always wait a few days after presenting a concept before taking a grade on it.
When I taught Science(4th and 5th also) it was a little different. If I gave a worksheet for homework where all the answers were in the book and they just had to find them, or copy vocabulary or something like that, I took grades.
I hope that helps :)

I'm not a teacher
but in 3rd & 4th grade we'd get mostly actual grades and on really easy review stuff we'd get completion grades.
OR we'd get completion grades but we'd get the work corrected so we had the right answers.

Hi, Here's a really easy way to grade there papers. By checks!
Check "+"= On time done neat, they way it should be. complete
Check= Nice, late, (only give if it isn't on day late), sorta sloppy, improvement can be, I answer wrong or 1 answer missing
Check "-" = Very late (one day or more) very sloppy, incomplete, more then 2 answers missing.
You can always modify the ways, but that's a basic outline.
