Would a 20 galllon be big enough for 3 swordtails? Its all I can afford for now I will be getting a larger one but mayybe not until next year, depending on if i get a job or not. Also, would I be able to add any cories or shrimp in with them?

That is definately big enough. Rule of thumb for fish is 1 inch of fish at adult size per 1 gallon of water - leaving out 3-5 gallons for decorations, rocks, filter, etc.

yes it should be more than enough

a rule of thumb is 1 gallon of water for 1 inch of thin fish.. a full grown swordtail is from 3 to 4 inches so your 20 gallon should easily accomidate these fish because they sould take up about 9-15 gallons in your tank you could probably add 1.. 2 if you are planning to take good care of it.. congrats on taking up the hooby and the best of luck to you.. and remember the ratio of swordtails is 1 male for every 2 or 3 female.. males are the only ones with the "Swords"

That's more then big enough, but keep in mind if you get 2 females and 1 male (as recomended) you will soon end up with LOTS of swardtails! Although there will probably still be room for some friends. :)
