i would like to check out detailed street routes and traffic jams and all these has to be up to date. i would like to be able to track my location and if possible have detailed routes for my travels

Yep- There is none available. You need the satellite access and no program can do that alone.
No one can stream GPS satellite information. Unlike Satellite Radio which can be streamed.

There's a Linux version of TomTom that's free. You still need a GPS reciever if you want the software to run properly...

You won't find one for free, unfortunately. Unless you want to use Google Maps, but it won't be in real-time..

uh-huh...? hmmmm? imma thinking that you're a wanting to track perhaps a "significant other"? hmmm? i heard that some cell phones can actually act like one..> (?bluetooth?)..<...?but, I don't know? good luck though... : )
