Well, I am a sincere fan of both, so no dissing from me. :^)
I've known people who have done both and they say each is very difficult, but they are more similar than dissimilar. (They have more in common than say, golfing and gymnastics, or tennis and cheerleading.) A serious cheer team trains as much as most gymnasts, barring the world champion caliber folk of the sort who live in the gym and earn their education with a tutor.
Obviously in terms of floor exercises the two are on a par. Some of the best cheer tumblers out there can step in and compete as gymnasts on the mat. (Just check out Cheer Athletics, Top Gun, and GymTyme from the world of All-Star cheer). As for apparatuses, one can't be certain that a cheerleader could necessarily step in and be able to perform on the beam or the bars or the horse without some intensive training and a focus on perfection of their technique. Likewise, neither could a gymnast just pop up into a stunt like a rewind scorpion double down on the first try. (I once heard Amanda Borden from the Dream Team comment during a cheer competition she was announcing that she had tried some of those partner stunts and that they are much harder than they look.) But gymnasts and cheerleaders who are first class athletes should, with some training, be able to do what the other can do.
For fun here are a ton of video clips of tumbling and cheer routines: http://geocities.com/aescougarcheer/AirDates.htm

This is a difficult question. It's kind of like asking whether writing a short story or a poem is more difficult, though the two use words they are radically different. It is the say with gymnastics and cheerleading. Both a artisitic sports and involve flipping around but from here the two seperate. As a gymnastics coach with nearly 10 years of experience I would have to say gymnastics is harder for the simple reason of a larger variety of skills (on multiple apparatus), more difficult skills, more rigid standards, and a greater emphasis on form. I have coached cheerleading too and have watched some competitions, even the on the all-star squads the biggest tumbling skills seen are usually fulls. Something must be said for the stunts and tosses. They are truely impressive, but again the judging standards aren't as rigid as gymnastics. It seems more about getting it done than doing it perfectly. So yeah, I would say gymastics is harder than cheerleading.

that's many times much less stressful for an elite gymnast to p.c.. up cheering than that's for an elite cheerleader to p.c.. up gymnastics, simply by how different the activities are and how lots preparation they require to comprehend. That reported, do by no skill enable absolutely everyone assist you to recognize cheering isn't tricky in its very own mind-blowing, because of the fact there are few situations you could purely seize a random group of human beings off the line and say, "ok, enable's see a rewind to heel stretch double down." Amanda Borden the Olympic gymnast as quickly as reported whilst she replace into cyber web hosting a cheering opposition that she had tried some stunts and that they beneficial weren't as consumer-friendly as cheerleaders lead them to look.

I think that gymnastics is harder too. Because you have to learn so many moves with presicion. And its really hard to perfect. Ask me how i know. I have been doing gymnastics for maby 6 months, and its hard, but alot of fun. Once you know how to do gymnastics, cheerleading will be no sweat at all. Because cheerleading has gymnastics, and danse, all in one package. But ya, people do have there different opinions. Okay!

Gymnastics is an olympic sport that the Eastern Europeans were good at.
Can you imagine Helga or Boris smiling with a cheerleader uniform on, not me.
Not to slight cheerleaders at all, its a great avctivity I have to give it to gymnastics, they train everyday of their lives from toddler to the end. The rigors far outweigh cheerleading's.

Gymnastics is really hard, but you don't have to work as a team, and once you have the trick down, you have it. In cheerleading you have to work as a team, stunt, which can be very tricky and isnt the same every time. for instance the flier doesnt bring her legs up high enough one time, and one of the bases doesnt catch her leg another time. Also, you have to learn new cheers every season. You have to hit your motions exact. And cheerleaders do gymnastics too. On timeouts in basketball they do some tricks out on the floor. There are lots of more things I could say..
Cheerleading is harder.
