I recommend Maytag and ONLY Magtag. Others need repairs much sooner. Maybe since you don't use the dryer much just get a washer for now. Oh, and make sure you buy the Magtag from a dealer, because Magtags which are sold in places like
Home Depot, Lowe's or wholesale outlets don't have all Magtag parts and will fail; they just have the outside and a few parts that are Magtag. Don't be fooled, okay? My Mother in law had a washer for 25 years before it needed repair. My husband bought washer and dryer in 1986 and the washer was fine until recently. The dryer needed a belt and has been going fine since 1986. The Magtag guy told me the info about Lowe's etc not sells the whole deal Magtags. He also told me the motors are stronger on the full deal Magtag and can push the water out easier if the washer is located in the basement like mine is. Have you ever heard the Magtag commercials about the Magtag repairman never being needed? It is true! Magtag's have really nice large capacity drums which hold very large loads so you don't have to wash as often, too.

I would recommend you get just a washing machine and forget about the dryer bit. You can then afford a better washer with a higher spin speed (1600rpm is good). This way a lot of your clothes come out practically dry and just need airing.
It will be much cheaper to run and you will be able to get more washes done more quickly without having to wait for the drying cycle to finish..
Invest in a couple of clothes airers (http://www.johnlewis.com has several) and you will be fine.

I recommend any Whirlpool appliance. They are the best, and have the least trouble out of any of the other brands. They have a proven track record of making high quality and EXTREMELY long lasting low cost appliances. The front load washers are very nice and reduce drying time, but are also pricier than top loaders. Whichever you choose from Whirlpool will last a long time and perform flawlessly.
Good Luck and hope this helps!

Bosch......... we've had ours since about 1997/98 after it got high test ratings from WHICH? magazine 2yrs running.......... only time we had to call out a service engineer was when it started making funny noises, which turned out to be an escaped wire from my sister's bra that got caught up somewhere (apparently that's the only problem that goes wrong with them).
