When you exercise, the muscle's need for oxygen increases. Since there is a set amount of oxygen that your blood can carry, the heart needs to pump the blood to the muscles faster to make up for their increased demand.

Your muscles need more oxygen and need to have their fuel replaced. Both come from the blood supplied to them after being pumped by the heart so of course it needs to increase its rate.

Athletes used to heavy exercise typically have hearts that have developed to give them a lot of these needs at low rates but when they are under stress from extreme efforts their heart rates go up too.

As parts of your body are exercised they begin to demand more supplies from the rest of the body. The main component being oxygen. Nutrients are also sent though and wastes are carried away. A greater heart rate allows this to happen faster and so allow you to exercise longer.

to increase oxygen supplies to the muscle which prevents the accumulation of lactic acid as a result of anaerobic exercise when insufficient is supplied thats why the heart needs to work extra hard to supply enough oxygen to prevent this from happening!

so that it will push more blood with oxygen from the lungs to the whole body coz while working out the cells consume more oxygen to make more ATP to work the muscles.
