i think it was fox news, and they played a clip of him saying that this morning, or it possibly could have been NBC, it was one of those 2 stations. where they have all the politicians on asking them questions.

ITS JUST ANOTHER LIBERAL HYPOCRACY.
OFCOURSE IT ISNT RIGHT TO INSTITUTE DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WHITES WHILE CLAIMING U ARE AGAINST DISCRIMINATION. MAKES NO SENSE AND IS ILLEGAL ON ITS FACE.
BUT SINCE WHEN DOES ILLEGALITY OR SENSE MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO LIBERALS?

Because we still have those who still hire based on a racial preference and not based on ability to perform the job. Affirmative action was put in place to force a change in the mentality. There was a test performed where a European American male and an African American male applied for the same job. The European American male had a criminal background and was less qualified. The African American male had no criminal background and was more qualified. To much a surprise the European male was hired for the job. I believe Affirmative Action was really put in place as a determent for these types of practices. This is not just an isolated incident. The same types of things happen across the country. The problem is a firm is forced to hire a certain amount of minority not just African Americans making the job place more diverse which is good. However, the management and higher level jobs still wind up going to European Americans mostly and minorities seem to only get the lower level positions. So essentially Affirmative action is flawed in reality. Until we get into the habit of hiring qualified minorities into management positions. Affirmative action still remains useless. So complaints about Affirmative action's forced hiring African Americans or any minority in my opinion are really without merit. Especially when no firm really adheres to the Affirmative Action rules anyway. I think it is more of a complaint about a feeling of it being unfair without understanding that it really doesn't exist. It is just a treatment to a hiring symptom and not a cure.
And please if your statement about what Dr. King said was truly heard by you shouldn't you provide proof. I mean I would have certainly remembered where i saw it and not say I think or it was on one of the news channels. That sounds quite suspect. As if it didn't really happen.

We are trying to even the score, give everyone equal footing.
But yes. By the very nature it is reverse discrimination.
With all things being equal, same education, experience etc. hire a minority. That is what we are told when hiring.
The truth is that all things aren't equal and there is always something that tips the scales for those who hire...and it ain't race.
It sounds good on paper, but most of the time affirmative action is just a 'sounds good initiative' at least in the private sector.

Why do people think Affirmative Action is only for Blacks? Whites use it TOO
My daughter went to a College she Graduated, Summa *** Laude ( highest distinction) for those who don't know what it is.
She was put on waiting list, because 2 WHITE girls wanted to also attend this Historical Black Nursing School, both scores were below (my daughter had a 3.8 GPA, ) But because of Affirmative Action, the 2 White girls were excepted in this Nursing Program, over my daughter, BUT it all worked out ,the 2 white girls ended up dropping out, My daughter went on to get her MASTERS in Nursing. She is now the DON ! ( Director Of Nursing) My daughter is BLACK!

Question for you. A big kid in the playground bullies all of the little kids, takes their lunch money and generally causes them problems. You find out - what do you suggest?
1. Let him keep on doing the same?
2. Take a cut of the cash?
3. Tell him to give some of it back and behave?
One of those is affirmative action. The others are what came before.

I wasn't aware that he said "most whites aren't decent people".
Would like you to link me to that, that's pretty eye-opening.
Back to your question, affirmative action is an ideology that has nothing to do with the present in terms of equality, rather it has to do with a group of people who have been disenfranchised in the past, and due to this, have been put in a unfair position with regards to upward mobility. Yes, we all believe that Any individual can make it based on personal motivation.
This is common with native americans (we took their land, and did other not so nice things) african americans (slavery, equal rights).

because many capable people have disdvantages that prevent the from exceling like their equilivelents who have had everything on a siler platter and an easy life. there should be affirmative action. not just based on race. but anyone who is disadvantaged. the quality of life does effect your opportunities and chances. by giving those people a leg up, you are now leveling the playing field.
think about it.

Don't you people ever get tired of posting these crap questions? Yeah, "the part where he says most whites aren't decent people." Sure. Whatever. Why don't you post and cite exactly where "he said" that.
LoL! Yeah, I'm guessing it was Fox News. Why don't you find that clip of that alleged statement.

you must be young. The times of Dr.King Jr.,are a time in American history that warranted his comment.Since that time the landscape has changed dramatically.I do however caution you to continue to study and reflect upon your own beliefs.
