actually I am Ambidextrous. When I was a child (born in the 70's) there were no left handed scissors or anything else for lefties so we were "forced" to use our right hands. Things have come a long way since then. But now because of it I can actually use both my hands equally. That's pretty cool sometimes. It freaks people out if I decide to "switch" hands in the middle of doing something !!

Yes, but it's a right-handed world out there. So many things righties take for granted are a trial for those of us who work from the south side. Scissors, snips, and the like are perhaps the most obvious examples, but there are plenty more. Ever notice how many 'hand-held' devices are made for the right hand? How about the terminals at checkout lanes where you have to sign the credit card paperwork? You have to be a contortionist to get to some of those. Even some telephones - they are set up so the receiver is on the left, and you can hold in the left hand, leaving the right free for taking notes. What do I have to do? I have this black cord stretched all the way across the desk top to get it to my right hand, effectively blocking the area I want to use to take notes.
About the only thing in which it really helped was baseball. We are limited there (How many left-handed 2B, 3B, SS, and Catchers do you know?) in what's available, but it is a distinct advantage at First Base - natural position for throws from infield, glove hand toward the field, etc.
My parents did not try to change me, but my grandfather was a natural leftie, and he was forced to write right-handed. As a result, he could write with either hand - but you could barely read either version.

Yes, we lefties can be quite amazing
Let me name a few:
Oprah, Angelina Jolie, Albert Einstein, Alexander the Great , Babe Ruth, Benjamin Franklin, Bill Clinton, Bruce Willis, Carol Brunett, Demi Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Dennis Quaid, Fidel Castro, Gerald Ford, Howie Mandel, Jerry Seinfeld, Julius Caesar, Ken Griffey, Jr, Leonardo da Vinci, Marilyn Monroe, Napoléon Bonaparte, Pablo Picasso, Paul McCartney, Ronald Reagan, Sam Adams, Tom Cruise, Lisa Kudrow, and Whoopi Goldberg
Supposedly we are more creative because we use the right side of our brain instead of the left, I wrote a paper on this

A challenging question. My grandmother was Lefty, and she was switched. My sister was left-handed, and explained to me a few of the things in the world that are "loaded" for people who are strongly left dominant. She coped pretty well. "Switching" I guess is a well intentioned if ill informed effort to make the child's life better.

I'm ambidextrous. I can use either and it's not hard. I do know people who's parents made them write with their right hand as opposed to the left because one actually thought it was evil! There's a lot of stupid people in the world.

im left handed yay, go us. i go to a grammar school (sort of higher intell. schl) in England, and over half the class is left handed, and then in the rétard school, they are all right handed. when i was in primary school, they gave special pens to me to make if difficult to write left handed, and also i held it differently so it wouldnt smudge, by i dont even have scrappy handwriting, i can make it look like times new roman, or very easily like an elizabethan document, i dont feel special or unique (i think its about 1 in 10) but im dont think anyone should be ashamed of it or be tried to made 'normal'
