Elastomeric paint question. I know what the positive reasons for using it, what are the negative reasons. I have a home with a stucco exterior that needs painting. I’m considering elastomeric paint, what are the drawbacks?

Elastomeric is a very flexible, water resistant coating for masonry surfaces. The only downfall, I see, is that the coating is on the soft side and won't take contact well. If a ball or stone hits your house, there's a good chance a piece would get knocked off. Other than that, its a great choice.

Oh, and remember to expect to get only about 80 sq. ft. per gallon..............

I've been using it since it was first marketed, and on a house with fiberglass based stucco as well as many others.
I've applied thousands of gallons of paint, and fine elastomeric to be as good as any quality product.

Considering that all paints have some downsides, IE: Durability etc. and NONE will weather forever, AND paint is relatively inexpensive, I don't see any negatives to using any quality product.

Elastomeric is just more costly than standard exterior paints. I used it on tarpaper years ago; it still looks great.
