There's no point in promoting tourism here until the locals understand that tourists don't want to be hassled and followed around by vendors, see plastic and rubbish all over the place, including in the sea, and have to endure the terrible wailing sounds coming from cheap karaoke bars every 100 metres.

It's wonderful that most of the beautiful places in this country are still unspoilt by tourism - on the island I live on, it's a once a month occurence to see a bit of plastic on the whole 800 mtrs of pristine beach!

Quality is what is needed in this country, not cheap tacky bars and lodges, infrastructure also needs a hell of a boost, here's two examples out of thousands:-

Boracay has been a tourist destination for more than 30 years, yet tourists still have to walk through water to get on and off the dreadful boats used to push them around - why can't someone sort out a landing dock? Please don't think that wading to the beach is part of the charm, that would be pathetic.

Puerto Galera rakes in billions of pesos every year, yet the road from the town to Sabang is still not finished, and will forever be under repair due to the standards of work here, which ensure that everyone has to re-do their work every six months instead of doing a job which could last for years.

Standards of almost everything here are way too low.

50 usd will get you a 2 star hotel in Manila or a 4 star hotel in Bangkok, all other Asian countries are way ahead of us in terms of service and quality, and the old days of the Filipino smile excusing these low standards, are long gone.

The World is a small place these days, and if this country doesn't start adapting and improving, it's going to be left behind forever!

Well, first of all you don't say where you live... nor if you are talking about national or international tourism.

Depending on that, it would be by placing stands in places of interest (parks, malls, museums..) filled with brochures of touristic places. People who go to any of those places usually are looking for more or would like to know similar places to visit.

Sending touristic information and posters to embassies, travel agencies, bus stations, airports, schools, etc.

Publicity on the media (tv, radio, newspapers, internet). Specially good web pages (today most people look for that info on line).

Interesting History and Geography classes at school to make students eager to know and see those places.

Providing good facilities, friendly services, reasonable fares and personal safety.

To promote tourism is not a big deal. Th every fisrt thing which one needs to do is stop saying any absurd thing about your own country because it disgraces the aestheticness and sedateness of your country. Welcome the people coming from different countries like the people of your own country. When they are going back to their own country the should feel that they are missing something in the country where they are standing.
