With proper research and diligence, a saltwater tank can be easy to care for. There are a few more things to be aware of when dealing with saltwater than freshwater and the cost can be a little higher. For begining saltwater, the bigger the tank the better. Large systems do not fluctuate as rapidly in temperature and water quality as smaller systems. Check out "The Concientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert M. Fenner for a good starting point. Thorough research and careful planning will be your key to success with saltwater.

generally, sure, saltwater will be extra sturdy. How a lot extra sturdy relies upon on how a lot analyze and making plans you position into the tank and how you position it up. One important distinction is clearly the water chemistry. Saltwater is slightly extra complicated, with for sure use of a salt mix, yet also from the better pH. Ammonia is way extra fatal at a higher pH, and accordingly the impact from even slightly is many situations worse than in a decrease pH freshwater tank. also, maximum saltwater fish interior the interest come from very sturdy waters interior the wild, with little or no replace or fluctuation in temperature, high quality, etc. accordingly those fish are literally not tailored to administration surprising variations nicely. careful acclimation is a ought to, and a sturdy tank is a ought to. So generally, saltwater isn't as "forgiving" as freshwater. slightly mistake may have fatal outcomes to the fish. notwithstanding, if set up genuine and carefully, a saltwater tank can get extra common in time and by no skill truly be that a lot extra sturdy than freshwater, yet at the same time as issues get it incorrect, they could truly get it incorrect immediately. the final analysis is interior the tank setup. you want organic organic and organic filters to do maximum of the be brilliant for you, so use stay rock and refugiums. Skimmers are also very accessible. you'll need higher flow than in freshwater tanks, and careful stocking is tremendous important to assist in holding water high quality extreme. commence with some books and a large number of analyze, get the tank planned, set it up, cycle, and proceed slowly. the first 6 months to a 12 months will be difficult, yet after that, at the same time as the tank establishes, it receives a lot extra common. yet in case you don't desire to flow sluggish, do not want to analyze, and do not want to spend time or money doing issues proper, then do not try saltwater.

X,salt water aquariums are VERY difficult to take care of.At first.Once you have your system set up properly then things run smoothly. That is if you don't get a sick fish(it happens a lot)or bacteria is introduced to your tank.(from the air, perfumes ,air fresheners see where I'm going with this?!)Salt water fish are pretty pricey so when you lose one it not only hurts 'cause you care about them but it hurts the ole pocket book,as once you lose one it's quite possible to lose more.If you lose a fish get it out as FAST as possible.Try like hell to find out what caused it's death.(not always do able)Check your PH levels and acidity levels right after it's death and for that matter every other day even if you aren't losing fish.I can't tell you how many people have lost their whole tanks due to a too high/low balance with PH or acidity levels.go to the library and get a couple books on salt water tanks for beginers .Or Google it.Do LOTS of research before you start. It's a costly hobby to start up and you'll want to make sure everything is perfect before you add your fish.NEVER add fish to a tank that hasn't been running (with no fish in it)for a week or more. That allows you to make sure those levels I mentioned are good and helps build up a beneficail slime in your tank.Good Luck!!In response to the person who said the fish (some of them!)need to be cleaned daily.I've never had to clean a fish!(I'm sure you meant tank lol!)Goldfish are the most easy fish to take care of.They don't need aheater, filter or anything else other fish require(besides water!)Not to mention they are FRESH water. You'll kill them for sure if you put 'em in salt water. And you don't need to clean gold fish tanks every day it not good to clean ANY tank every day it can cause a lot of problems.Fish need the slime that gets on the sides of their tank.Once a week is fine.Or less.

taking care of a salt water tank is too hard and a huge responsibility, as well as tough and frustrating. certain fish need to be cleaned once a day, like goldfish and other species because of feclie matter floating around in the tank, and they will die if you don't change them often. then, changing the tank and keeping the filter clean is hard ( and heavy!) to do, and a real pain. if you haven't done this before, get some help from an experienced person.

Forget about it, unless you are a hardcore hobbyist. Saltwater tanks are REALLY expensive and take a lot of time to maintain correctly. Stick with freshwater and buy some cichlids. They are some of the most interesting and colorful fish while being a cinch to take care of.

Ok well my dad and i have had fish tanks for years and its always been fresh water but one day we decided to get a salt water and it just didnt work out for us but on the other hand we knew a guy that had no experience with salt or fresh water aquariums and got a salt water tank and he maintained it well. It really just depends on how dedicated u are with cleaning it all the time and another thing is it depends on the fish too! I hope if u get one that it works out!

EXTREMELY. especially if you've never done it before. salt water fish are very expensive and also very tempramental. the salt content as well as the pH of the water and several other variables can not be allowed to fluctutate very much due to the tempramental nature of the fish. this also makes the tank hard to clean as well. I used to work at petco and that was one of the hardest things i had to learn. please search out someone who's done it before, successfully, and then ask them more details about how to do it and even if its the right thing for you.
