There was some good times going on then. Do you ever miss that era?

Miss it - yes! For one thing, I was a lot younger then! Music was so much better - you could understand the words to the songs. Gas was cheap as well - about 25 cents a gallon until 1973 when it shot up to about 50 cents - we'll never see those days again!

We didn't have a care in the world, thought the peace and love would never end which just goes to show you how naive we all were at the time. I even lived on a commune for a while - now there was an experience. Do I regret it? Not in the least. Wonder what ever happened to all those people?

Finally though, we all came to the realization that we couldn't remain anti-establishment forever and we slowly drifted into the world of the "straights" hoping to be able to make the changes from within. Sadly, it hasn't worked. No one it seems is interested in peace since we seem to be such a warlike species. And no one really seems to care for their fellow man (or to be politically correct, fellow persons, which is dumb) any more and helping one another is out of the question. Of course any more, its not really all that safe if you stop and think about it.

Overall, life has been cool and groovy - I went back to school and now teach at a university - one of those hotbeds of liberal thinking!

Thanks for asking man, and peace and love.

Although I was considered a "hippy" at the time, the truth is I never really was. I pretty much always made up my own mind. I had long hair, but I was never a "hippy". Also, although there were some good times there were some pretty awful things happening too - Viet Nam, the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy, drug overdoses, "bad trips" and burnouts on LSD (remember the late Syd Barrett?), the difficult struggle of women for their rights (a good thing that should have been done decades earlier), the violence of the civil rights struggle (which also should have been accomplished decades earlier), and much more.

My life is going fine now, thank you.

My life is going great, thank you--- I miss being young (or at least I miss my 20 yr old body!) but I've pretty much kept a lot of the genuine ideals we had then... I do miss the era, in many ways.
Refined things a bit--- dropped the drugs, kept the spiritual outlook. Gave up "free love"--worked on trying to love more freely. My kids listen to some of "our" music--- it has stood the test of time!
I truly think we DID change the world in many ways---some things are better now, but some much worse. Despite having turned 60 (dear god!!!) there's still work to be done-- and still fun to be had!
I live on the Big Island and one of my kids lives in Arcata, CA, another in Eugene OR. "Hippies" are still alive and well--both us 'old' ones and a new younger generation.
(Do NOT miss tie-dyed tee-shirts, though!)

I'm 33 and I wished I was young in the 60's and 70's. The 80's were stupid. What did we have, AIDS and Michael Jackson and Ronald Reagan! Wow, how exciting! And our syles! The hair and the clothes were awful. I can't believe they're trying to bring some of the 80's clothing back like leggings and long shirts with belts! Scary! I was a deadhead though. I saw 42 shows including Jerry's very last one!

I sometimes look back to the marching on Washington, that war.Damn.the secret service coming to my home when i was fifteen, about Nixon.funny my parents never said a word later about there visit. The drugs, but only natural ones. the sex.was great of course.no anything but hey you wont to ball.? the good times. The strip in Atlanta.was great ,thumbed there about every weekend.for years. One block of hundreds and hundreds of hippies!!took my first hit of acid there.I flew into a hole in the wall and got lost till I looked out and saw me standing frozen with a dumb look on my face then zap, back in my body. it made me very psychic which I was already that way some..The freedom of youth was great back then.I don't do drugs now at all. eat wholesome foods only. take 11 types of herbs and all that.I have not worked for anyone for many years. raise parrots and dogs and fish to sell. paint pictures to sell.kill a few gators to sell sometimes.do things in nature to make money. deal in antiques.read palms and tarot cards and advise people on there health thru herbs and other natural ways of healing.. some people call me a shamon.went thru college and took many course in things that interests me.have read about 4000 books.am writing a book now, have discovered the medical cause and cure for Osteoarthritis.and am designing a website and will advertise it soon.I still do believe in the old ways of peace and having love for all things .especcially nature, have had two laws made by suggesting to a state legislator those ideas and he made then into law.In South Carolina.had a project I worked on for 18 years part time that is now saving about one life every day. in South Carolina. which puts shivers up my spine sometimes. One person can change the world.we need but care and do something.Peace. hope your doing well..

Well, I'm not sure I qualify. Like I told someone back then, it seems like everyone pursues either freedom or power. I choose freedom. If you accept that as a working definition, then I qualify as a Hippie. I have been blessed. Age is different from youth, and only the foolish do not accommodate change in life.

i came in at the tail end of that era, so i didn't get the full 60's experience, but from watching my older sisters and the small amount i did get to experience first hand was something i would not trade for anything. some of the greatest times of my life, from what i do remember that is.

"Old" is a relative term. I'm 60 and I feel good about that. Never tempted to do drugs. Had fantastic summer jobs in 64,65,66; got drafted in 66 and just completed 31 years altogether between the army, army nat'l guard, the air force and air nat'l guard. I'd do it all again with a few exceptional days when you think to yourself: "What the F am I doing here?"

Now I play in a rock bandt hat actually sounds good. Not one that just thinks it's good from the drugs.
