I'm an American, but I've studied English history, so I'm not completely ignorant of past struggles and wars. If Scotland becomes independent, will it control its own foreign affairs, also? Will it be a monarchy? I know Scotland has its own Parliament and thought they participated in the U.K. Parliament, also.

Won't happen. Too much (notably defense) at risk. There are a lot of important British military bases in Scotland (including the home of the UK nuclear deterrent) to make independence a likely scenario.

Also the oil is running out. This was (and indeed still is) often used as a trigger for independence (North Sea oil would fall in Scottish territorial waters). But The North Sea will run dry in under 30 years. The UK is as I type this moving energy resources from the North Sea to continental gas supplies.

The fact is (and I'm sorry Scotland) is that Scotland is economically stronger within the UK. It would be a minor, rural country on its on. Not a nice fact, but realistic.

The issue with Independence is heart over mind. I understand the hunger, but do you do this at obvious economic disadvantage?

England has supported the Independence of many small states, including the break up of Yugoslavia. Well, it is time in hit the Island. I hope Scotland, Wells, N. Ireland do declare Independence. Brits should eat their own stew because they been cooking it for far too long.

Well I'm from England but I do believe that if Scotland doesn't want to be a part of the UK, I wont lose sleep over it.
