Many people laugh at me because I still play video games.

If they are laughing at you for doing something you enjoy that mentally stimulates you and doesn't harm anyone, then they are primitive and ignorant beings, far from enlightened. Forget about them.

Also, ignore 'Jenni' below me. There's nothing wrong with playing fantasy games, as they require you to flex much more of your imagination, and tend to have a lot more depth and strategy than simplistic sports games.

Besides... if you want to play sports, you should go outside and play sports. If I want to slay a dragon and unite a shattered empire, I need to do that in a virtual setting, since there are no dragons nor empires.

For the record, I'm 20 and 5 months away from completing a B.S. degree in Computer Science, specifically so I can go on to create video games.

Well, I'm 58 yrs old. And my passion used to be video games. I started back in the early 1990s until last November. And I could do 14 hr stretches with no problem,if I had the time. My choise of games tended to be the ww2 shooter games. Although I very much enjoyed the games,I found them to be addictive. And when I think of all the time I wasted, when I could be doing more useful and productive things,(like y/a) it just makes me sick. I'm a truck driver, and when all of us drivers had our trucks headed for home, most were thinking about spending time with their wives and familys. Me? I was excited about getting back to my games.
And one day back in November, while at my church, the preacher gave a toe stomping, take no prisoners sermon on the wasting of our time. I knew what I had to do. I've heard it said that the best way to break a bad habit is to drop it. So that's what I did to my play station 2. And stomping on it a few times helped also. I could have sold it but I didn't want to pass that addiction on to someone else. And if I visit someones home and there is a video game there I won't go near it.
So if you can just play your games for and hour or two and put it down,I guess that's ok. But if you feel it becoming an addiction,ya better get rid of it.

If you have a nice job and an education what is there to laugh at. Most people go to college for nothing but game design because they loved playing video games earlier in their lives. My dad is 40 something yrs old and he occasionally plays video games. There is nothing wrong with that.

Omigod, that's so normal. My bf is 30 and he still plays. Just watch how much you play. An hour at the most a day is okay. Sometimes my bf plays Madden for 8 hrs. straight! Oh, and what kind of games do you play? It's kind of dorky to get to into fantasy games at 22 but like sports games are cool.

There's nothing wrong with taking some time, relaxin and spending it doing something you find enjoyable that doesn't harm anyone...regardless of your age. Just be sure it doesn't interfere with your school, job, social life or family.

Let them laugh. They obviously don't know what they're missing. My husband plays video games almost every evening after work and he's 44.

No way! Nothing's wrong with that. In fact...that's still a pretty early age for playing videogames! I know LOTS of guys that still play videogames into their 40s!

You haven't even started.

When our kids were growing up - we bought used Gottlieb pinball machines and set them up in the family room.

You haven't even gotten to that stage yet.

You can quit when you can score 12,000,000 on the first try out of the box.

it's a good thing if you have a well-rounded social & work life.

if you're a shut in with little contact to the outside world, perhaps it's time to put down the controller & get outside.
