I like his platform. He is a democrat but is a strong supporter for immigration reform and supported the Border Fence bill. He also supported the bill to increase armor for our troops/military vechicles, but wants to start withdrawing troops from Iraq and hand over complete power to the Iraqis by the end of 2007. I haven't really looked into his other positions to be honest.
Personally, he has a let of things against him. They don't bother me but could upset a lot of people. He his father was black and a citizen from Kenya. His mother is white. They divorced when he was young and he ended up being raised by his grandmother. He had a somewhat troubled childhood and admits to smoking a lot of weed, and yes he inhaled. But he did get his life together and got a law degree from Harvard and seems to have lived a good life since. He's married to a black women who works for Chicago hospitals and has 2 young daughters.
I actually like his personal backgound, I believe it gives him more "real life" experience and views that are lacking in many politicians. However, it's too early for me to decide whether I want to back him or not.

I have just started researching him since it seems as if he will be out there. The little I know about him, he has all the values I look for in a leader.
Right now I would vote for big purple Barney before I would vote for Bush.
Yes, I like Obama. I think Hilliary will have a chance too. I would like the Repubs to run John McCain. Then I know whoever runs against him will win..............
I just read everyone's answers. I think all of you are that had to mention Obama's name, he smokes and he came from a broken home with mixed parents is about as low as you can go as a human being. WHAT is in your background? Don't say,"it is O.K. because I am not running for President." WHY should someone running for President have to be perfect instead of living like the rest of us??? Or do you really think you are voting for the Pope or a Saint, which the way that is going might not be a great idea.
I will bet you that Barick Obma knows what a Wal-Mart is. I would much rather have a down to earth person for President. I would think he could relate better to us every day people. WHAT do you think of that??? He knows what it is like to live the middle class and lower class life. He is aware of the problems we deal with every day.

If his biggest credential is his racial background, then it is a mistake, as bad as electing someone just because they are female. the person(s) in the White house Oval Office have the capacity to launch the world into the darkness of nuclear holocaust, and the even more challenging task of preventing it. That does not require "political correctness", in fact, the reason we elect leaders instead of just polling the population to make important daily decisions (why we are a "republic"), is because as JFK said, it takes more courage to do the right thing despite what others think at the time. That's why teh observation of human behaviour "time makes more converts than reason" is so true, we need to have someone we trust implicity not just with our lives, with those we care about, or our country, but the fate of the world. if time has proven anything, no matter what we do, bad people in other parts of teh world will not leave us alone no matter how friendly or free with money or isolationist teh USA becomes. Look at teh billions of dollars the USA has poured into Russia for more than a century, they still have their nukes pointed at us, and have not repaid one penny, are we hoping as long as we keep giving them money they won't attack? the same for China, if we are their # 1 customer, they wouldn't dare attack us with all their shiny new military toys? I suppose China fears an invasion by Taiwan? When you get right down to it, teh awesome responsibility of the job, what motivates anyone to want to be President and have to know at any second they may be asked to decide, on the spot, whether or not to release armageddon?

A well educated man, a well spoken man, he has a nice smile, he has a nice wife, he gave a nice speech at the convention a couple years ago, he went to Kenya and took an aids test, had one law signed by President Bush, wrote a few books, admitted to trying cocaine in his youth and has done nothing for the people of Illinois. He had done everything for himself and his inevitable Presidential Run. He should wait 4 years and he would be a shoo in.

He's smooth, perhaps too smooth. He seems to have more questions than he does answers. I'd like to hear a few answers from the guy, or where he stands on certain issues. He must have the same handlers as Hillary, they are both very good at non answers. He, occasionally will parrot an opinion popular with his party. Hillary is afraid to even do that. She is a effectively stuck herself right in the middle, the classic moderate. This way she can't piss off too many people.
This is an old trick that slick Willie (her husband ) pulled on Bob Dole when he ran for president. It made it impossible to fight any issues that Clinton stood for, because he stood for nothing! Hillary is applying the same strategy so the lemmings in the US will vote for her, because she's vanilla wrapped.
Don't be fooled by this ploy. W e let slick get away with it against Dole, let's be a little smarted the next time, or do you enjoy being snookered by sleaze artist!

I think he is Bill Clinton 1991 and as the race goes on if he plays his cards right he will end up being the only one in the crowd that looks presidential....just like Bill Clinton in 1992.
However George and the NeoCons (everybody's favorite group the last twelve years) will not allow the world to survive long enough for there to be an election in 2008.

I think he is a solid candidate in 2008. He knows what he is talking about, doesn't put a lot of spin on his information, and he has experience with foreign and domestic affairs. He may the only one that can keep Billary from the White House.

He sounds a positive, optimistic note. Admittedly, he a bit of a blank slate, so people may see in him what they want to see, but he's a departure from the run of the mill partisan politics.

I like him. He's the only candidate I've been excited about in a long time. Just finished his book, "The Audacity of Hope." I think he could do a lot of good and inspire a lot of people in this country if elected.
