And why are they threatened by people that don't or choose not to compete for attention? Theirs or anyone elses attention? I ask because I want people's opinions from experience, if any. Seems this country promotes the idea of competing for attention. Such as reality and dating shows...

People compete for attention because it makes them feel good about themselves. If someone is just naturally likeable and takes that persons spot they feel like they ar not longer important and feel threatened.

Well, leaving reality and dating show aside and focusing on real life; I'd say it is because they have something to prove

I happen to be dealing with this at work. There is someone whom always tries to make me look and feel dumb in front of others. I would get upset, until I realized that this person is being a "*****" to me and others, so that they can have the upper hand in the situation. If no one was intimidated by this person actions and comments, then they would really see that they do not have much of offer.

I actually have more formal education then this person, and a better disposition in life. I don't brag about this, b/c that's just plain rude. But, under it all, this person knows it. Therefore, they must dumb me down in some way so that they stay ahead of me.

I think it is our nature. I have never noticed my lack of wanting attention intimidating people, in fact it seems to have opposite effect. They take advantage of my silence and keep blabbing about there life until my eyes are glossed over. Don't worry about me though...I speak up when necessary, I just don't blab all day like them.
