Is there a way to check if this is functioning properly, eg. using the Control Panel or some such other location on my computer?? This was a free computer so cant complain too much.

I tried the paper clip, the light came on and can hear sounds of trying to open, but nothing, Also tried through the My Computer - Eject and nothing, I am still stuck!

i'll go ahead and give this a shot just cause no one else answered: hope you find something better.

right click "my computer", go to properties, then hardware, then device manager, then cd/dvd-rom drives, double click the drive, then hit troubleshoot.

Also, the following may be worth a try. It's a program that opens the CD-ROM drive in case the button is in an inconvenient place. Hopefully it works.

two ways...

1. Stick a paper clip in the small hole located on the front of your CDROM drive...just below the door.

2. Double click on my computer, right click on CDROM...and click open CD
