Saddam was Reagan's inside guy. Saddam is sort of like Bush's Pervez Musharraf. He is handy and a good guy to have around as long as he doesn't try to get out of your dog leash. It probably means another Republican president, in the distant future, will have to attack Pakistan.

1. War isn't "good". Why do you short bus riders constantly say this? Do you think if you repeat lies often enough, idiots will eventually believe them and parrot them?
2. Why would Reagan attack Iraq in the 1980's? For what reason?
3. We helped Saddam get loans, and sold him some weapons, but the vast majority of his weapons were acquired from the USSR / Russia and France.

The Iraq-Iranian war was a proxy war between the USA and USSR. It didn't matter who we supported, we were fighting the Russians.
