I work in a bar and thought I'd speak my landlady before getting my lip pierced. She said no. But as I'm not involved with food preparation, does she have the right to stop me?

Yes, she does.

There is no official general law that forbids piercings of any sort at work. But it´s her business and it´s her right to tell you to wear certain clothes at work (think company uniform), to ask you to wear your hair in a certain way (think food sector), not to wear certain kinds of jewellery (think hotel reception) and of course not to wear piercings.

Your lips are prominent, everybody could see the piercing. If that doesn´t fit the bar you work in, your landlady has every right to tell you not to.

Sorry. ;)

It is part of uniform how you look and that can be dictated by your employer.

Also Health and Safety MAY be involved if was any chance that the ring or whatever could get caught in any way during your work and that includes aggressive customers!!!!

Most employers and customers do not really like to see nose/lip rings so be sensible and remove them when you go to work. This attitude may change one day but until then!!!

Some companies can be really funny and when i had to take out my nose ring i was offended as i did not work with food ..All the health and safety things i have read state only when working with food but it was written in my contract so check your contract first and if there is anyone else with the same bring that up

afraid the answer is yes, i have several facial piercings and each company/employer has the right to their own policy, fortunately for me i had them before the company changed their policy and so could not do anything about mine, sadly its down to preference of employer, there is still the unjustified prejudices

yes she can ask you not to wear a piercing...you could have one done and take it out when at work but don't know how practical that would be for you never having a facial piercing done...

hi there, read your contract, as it all depends on what your job role is? i am afraid 9 times out of ten its down to your employer to how many piercings you have, it all go;s down to personal appearance.
