My enquiries revealed that this village is now in the County Borough of Caerphilly. This is the link to their archive department:-

but there isn't much there - just a phone number.

This is the site for all Welsh archives:-

And since Trethomas was originally in Monmouthshire this may be of assistance (apparently former Monmouth archives are now held by Gwent County Council):-

The problem with William J. Thomas is, that I don't think he is Welsh! If he was, there would be pages about him but there isn't; so one gets the feeling that maybe he was English. But wot rdenig_ma, SB and James said: visited all those websites and same. What I can say is that Trethomas is under Caerfilly, Bedwas, Machen, Llandbredach, Ystrad Mnach, Blackwood, Abertridwr, Hengoed, Bargoed, Tredegar, Rumney and Trethomas - all in south east Wales. As of today (Northern Hemisphere) it is 46degrees with a S.W. at 9mph. Visibility is 6 miles. and surprisingly the humidity is 87%. I was eager to find out something about William James Thomas - but he has a lot of relatives - and like I said, seems to be English. At least English enough that the Welsh don't mention him! Best of luck! :-}
