my personal opinion is that people think that animals have no feelings and that we have power over them so they are less important than humans. The truth is that although animals dont have emotions the same as us (in other words they cant feel consequences in the same way) they DO feel pain and fear and lonliness and this really ought to be enough to make humans treat them better. They are our responsibility and we should protect them since they do not have a voice of thier own.

Its because human being is the most dangerous species in this world as it has got a thing call brain, which it use to do all good things and bad things.cruelty towards animal i s growing with the advance of civilization. It is not that human gets cruel towards animal only for food but for amusements also, and that is dangerous. It is seen that a little boy kicks a street dog only because it makes him feel good,so cruelty towards animal is human nature.

There are too many other things in the world to concern yourself with than "Oh, is Neighboor Tim pulling his dogs collarand leash a bit too often?" Animals arent humans. Theres enough trouble trying to get people to treat other people (humans) right. In other worlds where humans have to worry about war zones or poverty of something other than the feelings of underfed Malvich the Canine, cruelty to animals doesnt seem the most pressing concern. Again, if people are in that situation, its a bit harder for them to be compasionate to something that they prolly wont eat, cant communicate on a logical/reasonable level with, and does little to nothing to contribute to their economic/safety state.

Because alot of humans think this world is made just for them and it does not matter what happens to the rest of it or the innocent creatures in it. Humans exploit the planet and abuse the resources without regard for anything well being except for their own. I love animals and treat them with just as much or more respect than i do most people,

I have two opinions about this. A lot of people don't take time to understand and love animals so that makes them fear all animals.Second people love baby animals but by the time the babies grow up people are tired of them and turn them loose to fend for them selves. This makes the animals afraid lonely and defensive. Then people are more afraid of them and miss treat them. You may not agree with me but this the way i see it.

why there are negative attitudes against Nature(which includes Animals),and forgive me if i exceed your question a little
this is mostly the fault of religions ,which state that animals have no soul ,so people abuse them thinking that animals have no feelings
Man was created as a superior being ,not at all connected genetically or spiritually with animals
God stated that he put the animals here for the people to hunt and kill as they like ,so animals are hunted into extinction
Also people are under the impression that they are the owner of land that has been here for millions of years in the brief time of their lives
God said civilize the wilderness ,and people replace Forrest's with irresponsible agriculture, using fertilizers and overgraze ending up with desserts
Modern Agriculture is the biggest destroyer of nature going against all natural forces by plowing the lands killing the microbiotic life nessecary for building soil.removing forrests which produce shade and humidity
and practising Mono cultures (which in Natures eye are plagues of a single species ,responding with preditors and disease and the farmer in turn responding with dangerous chemical, such as herbicides and pesticides which poison the lands and the waters and raise the PH levels which affects life drastically such as sexual devellopment
to top it off God said that Nature was his gift meaning it was gratis ,so people disrespect it and place little value on the natural resources,as people do with things they get for nothing
all of this has resulted in that a vast proportion of this planet has been abused and we are facing a mass extinction of plant and animal species for the first time since the dinosaurs
------------------------------------------------------------------
Pagan religions are completely different ,their gods require payment for the gifts of nature ,sacrifice for harvest or permission from the Gods for hunting and only hunting for what is needed
the philosophy is that Man is the guardian rather than the owner of the land he occupies during his life
and animals even plant have souls,North American Natives will dance around a tree chanting that it is about to die ,they then quickly turn around and cut down it neighbour ,with the intention that this tree will not feel any trauma
and many Native religions regard animals as soul brothers or spiritual guides
in Pagan Myths are many Gods Half Man Half Beast
Today in this modern world the people that are most sympathetic to Nature and into making gardens are Pagan minded people ,and their Argiculture tends to be sustainable and organic
in the past as well Aztec Chinampas produce food after 800 years ,Incas terrazes are fertile still after a thousand
Modern Agriculture tires out the soil after 3 years
today many philosiphies try to combat these negative and destructive attitudes
Permaculture is one of them
Permaculture is well known and you can find many references on the web.
there is a University of Permaculture in Australia

IT'S BECAUSE WE THINK THAT WE ARE ON THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN WE WIN. BUT THE TRUTH IF IT IS SHARKS AND LIONS AND BEARS CAN STILL TAKE US OUT. SOMETIMES ITS DUMB KIDS JUST BEING STUPID AND WANTING TO HURT THE ANIMAL FOR FUN. EITHER WAY IT IS STILL SICK.
