Do you watch tv? Do you call people in other countries? These things come from satellites. Does the weather man show satellite shots of the storm front moving into your area? Granted, most of this was derived from a military application, but I'd say it has benefitted the world. GPS is used everywhere today. Cars, airplanes. Satellites are used to track tractor trailers as they deliver cargo all over the country. The same can be said for FedEx and UPS. That's all I can think of right off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a thousand more things I didn't think of.

Actually it's been a great benefit as long as no one allows any kind of weaponry up there and that will take the actions of a more advanced country so it will be harder to block but if anyone decides to do so. But, we are getting so much space junk that that is where the real danger is.

Global Positioning Satellites (GPS), so that you know precisely where you are.

Weather prediction, especially hurricane tracking.

Don't forget your hundreds of channels of programming on your dish systems.
