they have about the same performance. Ive a xbox 360 and think its better because of the Xbox!live feature, it adds alot more modes and is fun playin real people. The only real difference is that a PS3 has blu-ray discs. In HD resolution the xbox has the same resolution as the ps3(1080p). If you get either make sure uve a hd tv(plasma is better) because if you dont youll have 2nd highest resolution(which aint bad). 1080i is second highest meanin 1080 lines will be scanned at interface.
So if ure buyin id recommend a xbox if uve broadband, and a ps3 if you dont. And id strongly recommend a plasma hdtv to go with it.
Nevermind what slipkn0t1 says it doesnt matter that microsoft or sony make it,maybe he just had bad experiences with microsoft. there always a warranty on it. sony make mistakes too, every1 of my friends had a ps2 for 1 year and it broke, including mself.Plus the PS3 is only new so it could have mistakes, the xbox was out since november 05! and there was no major call backs.

Xbox is great but young and Microsoft always screws up - PS3 is the best because Sony has always been leading the game with their playstation - plus there will be always 3 times more games on the PS3 than on the Xbox 360

I would say that the Xbox has overall better performance because it has HD TV and it is like you are just there with the characters on screen so that's why I like the XBOX 360 but remember that's my opinion! ;-)

IMHO the console performance isn't as important as the games that come out on the consoles (presuming that they don't slow the game-play down)
