I'm sure that there are several "official answers" to that question. There's how many the Nazi party would admit to killing, which is widely considered to be only a fraction of the reality. There's the assessment of the Allies immediately after the end of WW2, which is a much larger number. Then there are the assessments of modern-day scholars and other interested parties. These portray an even larger number. What is important is that no one can agree completely... and I doubt we'll ever know. It was not in the best interest of the Nazi party to keep precise records of how many humans they killed and then buried or burned, and if they did, then they certainly weren't turning those records over to the Allies.

Have you ever seen a mass of thousands of civilian people, killed and their boddies gathered and burried into a huge grave.?
Believe me, it is awfull, it is not human, and only evil people can commit that crime. Now you ask how many; is that matters if there were one million or 6 or even 10 thousands? it is still awfull.
You really want facts, the Nazis killed in concentration camps (not in the battle field) about 11 millions of citizens from different nationalities (jews, jypsies, russians, polacks etc...)

About 11 million people were killed by the Nazis as part of the Holocaust. Approximately 6 million of those people were Jews, while the remaining 5 million were homosexuals, Poles, gypsies, dissidents, resistance, etc.

Cooee bceagles1 - enough to make sure that it never happens again! How many people have to be murdered by numbers? Evil occurred because good people did nothing - how many of them were there? More than the dead and if that isn/t a lesson - then we are all bad learners....

Depends on how you define "people". Hollywood generally quits counting after reaching 6 million Jews, but there were other races invloved too. (sq above got it right ^)

It was widely believed to be over 6 million, but many potential researchers are daunted by the controversy of the figure. If they found evidence that would point the number to be lower than the believed number of 6 million, they would be labeled as "Anti-Semitic" and if they rounded it up, they would be labeled as "Zionist". It's a double-edged sword.
