In a secluded public garden on the South Coast of England. A solitary clump of flowers looking just like very large snowdrops. Can anyone tell me what they might be?

They are Leucojums. They are part of the Lily family and resemble a large snowdrop. The common name for Leucojums are Snowflakes.

There are some very large snowdrop varieties, so your guess might be right, otherwise, without more details or a pic, I can't be more specific I'm afraid

very large snowdrops? I expect they have been bred somehow.
Or could they be white crocuses.

It's hard to really tell,there are a couple that look like big snow drop's. HYDRANGEA , CAMELLIA , EUROPEAN CRANBERRY BUSH. Take your pick,sorry could'nt help more,need to see picture.
